Understanding Cholesterol

January 25th, 2010

It isn’t only the older folk who have trouble with their cholesterol; younger persons have it too.  As an example, I’ll tell you that two of my children have this kind of problem, and they are both in their thirties.  Doctors suggest diet and exercise and some also prescribe a medication.  But there are alternatives to prescription medicine and you can learn more about these cholesterol treatments in order to discover exactly how to lower your bad high cholesterol as well as raising your low good cholesterol.  It sounds confusing, but it isn’t.

A Great Florida Town to Visit

January 25th, 2010

Coming from Florida, I am pretty familiar with almost every town there.  I’ve swam and fished in many different parts of the ocean, on the east coast and the west coast.  I can say with all honesty that a town called Destin is one of the prettiest places in Florida.  It’s not your place for camping but just the opposite.  The destin condos are opulent and lush, the water is sparkling blue and emerald, and the nightlife and shopping make this a really nice place to visit for a vacation or even just a weekend.  Many towns on the beach like to advertise that their place is the best.  But as a former Floridian I can express the personal opinion that it does not get much better than Destin.

Pornography – Is it Really Demeaning to Women?

January 25th, 2010

In the past pornography didn’t bother me and I never saw anything wrong with it.  If those women chose to allow themselves to be photographed or make a movie in the buff, what harm did it do?  But for the past five years or more, I have found that it is very demeaning to me personally.  There is no way that the everyday woman can compete with young girls who have never experienced childbirth and who have never had a weight problem.  They are not the norm for body shapes and the majority of women cannot hope to compete with the pornography pictures that are so abundant on the Internet.  I can’t help but feel as though I am being compared to these girls and I will never look like them in any way.  I don’t appreciate this porn because it makes me feel like I am lacking and just not good enough and I doubt that I am the only woman who feels this way.

Um, Traveling Out of the Country This Year?

December 31st, 2009

I’ve never been anywhere other than the Bahamas, but even then didn’t consider the fact that if something happened to me over there, that my medical insurance company wouldn’t cover it.  I’ve read that medical treatment overseas is much less than it is in the states, but even so, a major operation or treatment could still run into the thousands.  Most insurance companies won’t cover you out of the country.  What would happen if your luggage got lost, other than being inconvenience.  Would your insurance pay for it’s replacement, and which insurance company would that be?  A lot of my family members have been traveling to Cancun, but I’ll bet it never entered their mind to get travel insurance either.  The Travel Insurance Center ca show you the different kinds of insurance that you may need while out of the country, as well as helping you to find the best values for them.  They are an accredited business and as you may realize, these companies can’t stay in business should they steer you wrong.  That won’t happen with this company and it would be a very wise idea to go and visit them before you make another trip out of the US.

Welcoming 2010

December 31st, 2009

Hooray for another New Year coming up.  I’ve got my New Years resolutions in mind .  Do you?  Many people make these resolutions and promptly forget them (myself included), but there’s nothing wrong with trying again.  One thing I keep saying I’m going to do is keep my receipts separate and keep track of what is spent on certain people.  I always forget until a month or so and by then it is too late.  But, a few of mine are to lose weight, stop smoking, pay more attention to my family and less attention to my computer, keep better track of my finances, save money, and hey, I think that’s all of them although I no doubt will think up more.  But those are a lot and maybe I won’t be able to keep all of them.  The important thing is that I will try.

Picking Out New Luggage

November 10th, 2009

How about a 78% off sale on Samsonite luggage?  That is one well-priced sale.  At Luggage Base right now they have free shipping for the next few days for orders over $50.  You can also find some sales up to 85% off there.  Luggage quality should be the most important issue when making a purchase, and not the price.  But you also have to consider the weight of the bags as well as the size unless you don’t mind checking your bags.  Some bags are small enough to fit in the overhead of an airplane, so that you can carry them on and off.  But for car trips the size would not be as much of an issue.  Luggage with wheels makes getting around a lot easier but also weighs more.  Which kind should you use?  Visit Luggage Base and compare.  They also offer a price comparison that will help you determine the price you’d like to spend.

Wow! Frozen Smore Pops – What an Idea!

November 10th, 2009

I found this recipe at allrecipes and thought that everyone would enjoy this.  I’m all the time looking for new recipes for my grandchildren.

Wax paper

10 wooden picks

10 large marshmallows

1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs

1/2 cup (3 ounces) Milk Chocolate Morsels

1. Line tray with wax paper. Press one wooden pick into each marshmallow. Place graham cracker crumbs in small, shallow bowl.

2. Microwave morsels in medium, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power for 45 seconds; STIR. The morsels may retain some of their original shape. If necessary, microwave at additional 10-second intervals, stirring just until morsels are melted.

3. Dip marshmallows into melted chocolate using wooden picks; roll marshmallows to cover completely with chocolate. Dip into graham cracker crumbs, rolling to cover. Transfer to prepared tray.

4. Freeze for 20 minutes or until chocolate is set. Enjoy immediately or transfer to airtight container and store in freezer for up to 1 week. Be sure to allow marshmallows to sit at room temperature for a couple minutes prior to eating.

Makes 10 servings.

NOTE: Since wooden picks have a sharp tip, please use caution with kids. This recipe is not intended for kids under age four.
