Give Back Nutrients and Keep it Green
February 15th, 2010When I was a lot younger, my Father had a spot in the back of our yard where he threw food scraps (the ones our dog didn’t get). I never did understand why he did that. I thought it was to attract fishing worms. But when I was older I understood that many people had this kind of thing, and they used the dirt for fertilizing their flower beds and gardens. The bad part about this was that it smelled to high heaven. The good thing was that it kept the garbage out of our home and provided good dirt for our garden. But now you can find composters that can be closed up to the environment which keep the smell out of your yard. You can even find some that you can have inside your kitchen, which seems pretty resourceful and useful. The nutrients that these scraps put back into the soil makes a lot of sense to me.
