I’ve often wondered what diabetics can and cannot eat.  I thought that diabetics could not eat sugar.  But according to the Mayo Clinic, this is not true.  Diabetics need a healthy diet, as unwanted calories and fat will translate itself into higher blood sugar levels.  A diabetes diet is a healthy-eating plan that’s naturally rich in nutrients and low in fat and calories. In fact, it’s the best eating plan for everyone.  Diabetics need an eating program that essentially stays the same as eating a great variety of food can make it hard to control the glucose in the blood.  Persons with diabetes need to consult with a dietitian in order to learn how to make the right choices of food in order to maintain a good blood sugar.  But this won’t work for everyone.  This will not keep people from needing shots of insulin.  It may however, keep the blood sugar controlled.

Do you happen to use Facebook?  It’s been around for quite some time, but the fact is that us older folks haven’t been doing it that long.  The kids go to school and learn computers from the beginning now, but people in their 50’s have not all been too familiar with their computers and these online communities.  There are so many social networks that it’s impossible to keep track of them all.  Such as Twitter.  I’m listed on it but never saw much use for it.  Mostly I have been interested in playing the FB games such as Farm Town, Farmville and Cafe World.  I played a few others but mostly have settled down to those three, and lately I have been fooling around working on this computer, so I haven’t been on much in the past three days.  What does surprise me is that I don’t really miss it so much.

I’ve never been anywhere other than the Bahamas, but even then didn’t consider the fact that if something happened to me over there, that my medical insurance company wouldn’t cover it.  I’ve read that medical treatment overseas is much less than it is in the states, but even so, a major operation or treatment could still run into the thousands.  Most insurance companies won’t cover you out of the country.  What would happen if your luggage got lost, other than being inconvenience.  Would your insurance pay for it’s replacement, and which insurance company would that be?  A lot of my family members have been traveling to Cancun, but I’ll bet it never entered their mind to get travel insurance either.  The Travel Insurance Center ca show you the different kinds of insurance that you may need while out of the country, as well as helping you to find the best values for them.  They are an accredited business and as you may realize, these companies can’t stay in business should they steer you wrong.  That won’t happen with this company and it would be a very wise idea to go and visit them before you make another trip out of the US.

It’s been two weeks since I last seriously read the news; family life having kept me pretty busy; and yesterday I happened to notice that shootings had taken place in several locations.  This led to consideration of the fact that the poor economy most likely was responsible for these murders.  The nursing home murders are especially heinous as it appears that someone thought that our elderly needed to be cleared out so as to cease being a burden on the working class of this country.  If that were the case, then all of us baby boomers would be in physical jeopardy each and every day.  This thinking led me to wonder about the Great Depression of the 30’s, the effects mostly, but escalated into reading about the effects of the depression on countries around the world.  Imagine my shock to discover that Japan was scarcely touched by the depression and in fact, seemed to prosper.

I went to Wikipedia for this information.  It said that Japan countered the Great Depression by evaluation of their dollar and stimulus spending.  Businesses flourished and replaced other countries products as they were so much lower in price.  While in the US families were homeless and hungry and had to depend either on the generosity of strangers or what little they could receive from the government programs.  Why can’t the US do the same thing?  I am not an economist as you can tell and history was never my strong suit at High School.  But it does tend to make me wonder, if they could do it, why couldn’t we?
