Getting a Good Night Sleep

August 10th, 2010

Are you getting a good night of sleep or are you waking up in the mornings feeling unrested and still tired?  Some doctors would tell you that this might be caused by sleep apnea.  The only way to know for sure is to have a sleep study, and of course, you can ask the person that sleeps in your bed, if there is one.  But if this is not the reason then it is definitely going to be your mattress.  When we first pick out a mattress, we really don’t know what kind to look for.  But sleeping on the wrong type will make you feel worn out and can cause back problems.  For those who want to buy mattresses I think you should consult a mattress specialist who could help you make the decision of which kind is the best for you.

Dog Rescues

May 20th, 2009

I have been griping about the dog rescues for some time now for the simple reason that they want hundreds of dollars as adoption fees for their animals.  These are usually breed specific dog rescues, and their response to a complaint about their charges is that the vet costs money and if the potential adopter can’t afford that much, then maybe they can’t really afford to adopt a pet anyway.  Bull.  They just saw a way to make money off of the misfortunes of others and their ex-pets.  Now a rescue center in Pennsylvania has been raided and charges made against a dog rescue shelter.  The owner’s home was filled with dog cages and many of the dogs needed serious vet care.  These people are no worse than those who run the puppy mills.

P.S.  Another dog rescue group in Canada was also raided with the result that hundreds of dogs were rescued and being assessed and treated by their local humane society.  These people ought to have to be responsible for the costs of having these dogs treated.  And they also should be held responsible for the costs of spaying and neutering these animals.  All humane socities seem to require spaying and neutering; although the reasoning behind this is sound.  Bad thing is, if your dog escapes your home or back yard and is picked up by a shelter, they will cost you to retrieve them and still be required to be “fixed”.

Disability Claims are on the Rise

March 30th, 2009

Surely people might realize by now that disability claims have risen exponentially in the past several years.  The reason behind this has to do with the amount of baby boomers who are getting older as well as advances of knowledge within the medical world.   Years ago people did not know anything about manic depression, schizophrenia or other mental conditions and if it was spoken of, it was in hushed tones and knowing looks.  But disability insurance is just one of those parts of life that are so important to the lives of the American people.  These people would otherwise be unable to afford housing, food, medicine and other necessities, let alone some of the little perks that make life worthwhile.  I receive disability and if were stopped or even dropped down, once my husband was unable to work any more I doubt that we would be able to afford just the regular cost of living expenses.  I never wanted to be in this position, but when we were young we couldn’t see ahead and didn’t realize how important it was.  When we did realize it, too much time had passed to really have time to save much before retirement comes around.  And because the Social Security Administration routinely turns people down when they apply for disability, I highly recommend consulting with an attorney for help in acquiring it.  Years ago my Father applied because he was unable to work at all due to a very bad heart condition.  I read the report that the doctor had written about it and believe me when I say I was thoroughly alarmed as I had not realized how bad off he was.  They turned him down!  That was a shock.  It took him either three or five years to get his, so obtaining help with your denial is a must.

Sports Watches Can Show You Your Heart Rate! How Cool is That?

February 19th, 2009

Polar Heart Rate Men's WatchI do not know why I should be surprised at any technology that I come across, but for some reason these Polar watches have done just that.  I had no idea that watches existed that could show you your heart rate as this one does.  Polar watches do not come cheap but are said to be the most comfortable sports watch out there.  I don’t know if this is true or not, but all of their watch designs (and there are MANY), are great looking.  I just wonder if they have one that acts as a pedometer?  No doubt they do.
