Economic Depression and How to Overcome It

March 30th, 2009

It’s been two weeks since I last seriously read the news; family life having kept me pretty busy; and yesterday I happened to notice that shootings had taken place in several locations.  This led to consideration of the fact that the poor economy most likely was responsible for these murders.  The nursing home murders are especially heinous as it appears that someone thought that our elderly needed to be cleared out so as to cease being a burden on the working class of this country.  If that were the case, then all of us baby boomers would be in physical jeopardy each and every day.  This thinking led me to wonder about the Great Depression of the 30’s, the effects mostly, but escalated into reading about the effects of the depression on countries around the world.  Imagine my shock to discover that Japan was scarcely touched by the depression and in fact, seemed to prosper.

I went to Wikipedia for this information.  It said that Japan countered the Great Depression by evaluation of their dollar and stimulus spending.  Businesses flourished and replaced other countries products as they were so much lower in price.  While in the US families were homeless and hungry and had to depend either on the generosity of strangers or what little they could receive from the government programs.  Why can’t the US do the same thing?  I am not an economist as you can tell and history was never my strong suit at High School.  But it does tend to make me wonder, if they could do it, why couldn’t we?

Apple Iphone, Expensive but also Cheap Company

March 28th, 2009

I bought a used Apple Iphone for $99 from AT&T and it worked just fine.  But I was not pleased with Apple because they were too cheap to print out a manual for a phone that cost a lot, especially last year when they were $400.  Even cheap phones give you a manual.  Then I dropped the phone and even though it was in a case, the display quit working.  I had to drag out my old Razor and charge it up so I’d have a way to call someone. The cordless house phones always seem to be dead.  So today I bought a corded phone that also came with a cordless handset.  Now I can actually answer my phone.

Hello world!

February 18th, 2009

How many times have you seen this title on someone’s blog?  You always know that either they are just setting up their website, or just in the process of putting it back.  Count me in the latter.  When I upgraded to 2.7 my entire database got corrupted, and so far I have been unable to restore it.  I therefore had no choice but to wipe and redo.  The last straw came when I went to my site (this one) and although the headers were still there, the post bodies had disappeared.  Call me giving up.  I asked my host to wipe it and redo it.  Then I could not recall my Wordpress password and name because I entered right past that part upon setup.  I had to have host resend my initial setup message.  The last problem I’ve had so far is that my mail addresses won’t work.  It just never stops and I’m having so much fun that I’m not biting my fingernails.
