I’ve always wondered how to make dog biscuits and this recipe seems as complicated as anything else I’ve seen. On a television show about choosing the best dog groomer the contestants were given the task of making dog biscuits. Some of these did look a lot easier than this one, but if you really love your dog it won’t matter.

1 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup liver powder (available at
health food stores)
2 tablespoons brewer’s yeast powder
1/4 cup bone meal powder
3 tablespoons powdered milk
2 eggs, lightly beaten
3 tablespoons wheat germ oil (you may substitute bacon drippings)
1/2 cup water

This healthy and economical treat is reserved for your four-legged friends only! Your dog will thank you if you make a double batch.Preheat the oven to 325°F. In a large bowl or in the food processor, combine the flour, oatmeal, cornmeal, liver powder, brewer’s yeast, bone meal, and powdered milk (may also add beef or chicken bouillon cubes). Stir in the eggs, oil, and water and mix thoroughly. The dough will be very stiff and dry (much like dog biscuits!) Remove the dough to a lightly floured surface or pastry cloth. Roll or pat it into a rectangle 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into bone-shaped biscuits with a small knife, or use a bone-shaped cookie cutter. Re-roll the leftover scraps of dough and cut into shapes until all the dough is used. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 40 to 50 minutes until brown and dried through. Cool on a rack.Yield: About 12 large bones or 24 small ones.

How many times have I gone to Wal-mart or another store and seen those specialized displays for things like movies, tax software and similar items. Well those are called pop displays (point of purchase) and they are specially made for businesses in order to display an item in order to bring special attention to it. I imagine it makes it a lot easier for the stores to use those as opposed to putting them into an unmovable metal bin.

My hubby and I have enjoyed the winters up here in the more northern states but we also have learned how to layer up and also to cover our heads and our ears. Biting winter air can really make your face burn. We also have tried to find other ways to keep warm during the winter. This can include using a electric blanket. But I have also found another little thing to help during the colder months; a towel heater. Ooh, this reminds me of the warm towels that the hospital gives out when a patient gets cold, and what hospital doesn’t get cold? I came across these winter helps at Cozy Winters. They have a gloves and boot warmer, those cleat things that you put on the bottom of your shoes to keep you from slipping on ice. I know those work because a neighbor has them and she was telling me that she had never slipped on ice. They even have heated pet beds! I love this site.

I wonder how people are doing with their New Years’ resolutions for losing weight. Honestly I am not doing that well with mine. I had cut back on the amount I ate and had good results, but the problem is that it seems that the minute I decide to try to cut back on food intake, my family decide it’s time to step out to eat. Maybe if I tried Stimerex ES I would have more luck. This pill is supposed to give energy and help with burning fat, definitely two things that I could use.

Do you have Medicare? Do you understand it? While working in a hospital doing regular insurance billing I was asked to switch over to handling Medicare. I didn’t care to. But even then I had to deal with Medicare and I have to admit that I never did understand it. Now I am at the beginning of getting my Medicare, not because I am old enough, but because I qualify for it because of a disability. My spouse is about to go on disability through his job but will also apply for regular disability, and although I could stay on his health insurance, don’t see much sense in paying for Medicare and health insurance through his work. The problem is that I have to look for a prescription plan through Medicare and then the fact that even then my medicines will not all be covered.

Medicare has what they like to call a ‘coverage gap’, where they won’t pay for medicines, although the beneficiary (Medicare recipient) pays for the premiums. Anyway, once you AND your prescription insurance plan have reached the total payments of a bit over $2,000.00; they won’t pay again until the total cost of medications reach just over $4,500. Hm, does this sound good? Makes me wonder what all the people on Medicare are doing to be able to afford that gap. Do they just give up taking their medicine for the rest of the year? It’s true that you can get ‘extra help’ but that isn’t for everyone and those who are eligible have a really low income. The extra help is just for the prescription plan premiums, not help in being able to afford medicine during the coverage gap.

I recall my Mother telling me that one of her prescriptions, the top antibiotic, cost $500 and she telling my sister not to buy it. She was in her coverage gap period and she was not about to pay that much for one prescription. I’ve got to find out how much my medicines cost for one year and see how long I’ll have to go off of my medicine. Although, being bipolar doesn’t mean not taking medications will kill me, it might drive my family insane instead.

When it comes to choosing joint supplements there are many options. Use caution when choosing both the supplement and brand.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis often have inflammation of the tissues and surrounding joints, but can also have more complex deformities of the hands. It can also effect other organs of the body. Patients with osteoarthritis often develop lumps or nodules around the knuckles of the fingers. Early treatments of finger and thumb arthritis are focused on managing the symptoms in an effort to avoid surgery. Joint Pain Relief is hopefully the end result. Arthritis causes a great deal of pain in sufferers, no matter which kind of arthritis they have.

I’ve often wondered what diabetics can and cannot eat. I thought that diabetics could not eat sugar. But according to the Mayo Clinic, this is not true. Diabetics need a healthy diet, as unwanted calories and fat will translate itself into higher blood sugar levels. A diabetes diet is a healthy-eating plan that’s naturally rich in nutrients and low in fat and calories. In fact, it’s the best eating plan for everyone. Diabetics need an eating program that essentially stays the same as eating a great variety of food can make it hard to control the glucose in the blood. Persons with diabetes need to consult with a dietitian in order to learn how to make the right choices of food in order to maintain a good blood sugar. But this won’t work for everyone. This will not keep people from needing shots of insulin. It may however, keep the blood sugar controlled.
